On June 20th/21st, we have a magical cosmic event happening! Solstice days are portals of divine magic, initiation and miracles. Shifts of all kinds in our consciousness are prevalent as we enter a new season of possibility and progress. The Solstice is here to bring an awakening of our emotions and a soothing presence of healing light. This is a time that invites magical occurrences and spiritual breakthroughs. If things have felt stagnant or just blah, expect to see a renewal of your energy levels and a new profound connection to your purpose and destiny. Major healing of our inner child is also possible now as we reconnect to our inner emotional compass of self love and self awareness. This is a time to deep dive into our well of what makes us feel safe and secure. It all begins with coming back home to ourselves and embracing all of our strengths as well as our weaknesses.
The longest day of the year is celebrated with fairy magic, by honoring the bees, surrounding oneself with flowers, and opening to the abundance to come.
This turn of the Wheel of the Year invites us to practice gratitude for the creatures and plants the make it so we can live this life. It’s an invitation to recognize abundance in all its forms and allow yourself to be the truest form of you. With the sun shining bright, consider what it is that you want to create more of between now and August 1.
Midsummer Solstice is also known as Litha, and for the Earth-Spirited, Litha is a fire celebration on the Wheel of the year. From bonfires to rituals under the Solstice sunrise, to standing in groves of Oak, and honoring standing stones, there are many ways to honor the Summer Solstice and and the month of June. Litha is the prefect time of year to harvest herbs and flowers, and even make some teas of your own! Make a flower crown, play with faeries, just bask in the sun. With roots in Celtic tradition, Litha is a time to ask for blessings from the Horned God and Mother Nature.
Check out some of these suggestions on honoring the light and new growth!
- Make sun tea- simply place loose leaf or bagged tea in a large jar or pitcher (might need a few tea bags if using those) and cover the tea while it sits in the sun to brew! A fun addition would be to add a grid of flowers and stones around the tea while it brews.
- Have a midday dance party with the sun shining above you- let loose and give all your energy to the earth and the sun to awaken your soul and shake things up.
- Bless your houseplants with little trinkets or crystals for a few days- houseplants can be amazing invitations for a little fairy energy in your home (if you want to invite that in, of course!).
- Enjoy some local honey or mead- or get wild and make your own!
- Create a fairy garden- I love to do this with sticks, leaves, stones, acorns and other natural elements that I find laying around. I position them to look like little furniture at the base of a tree!
Here are some favorite magickal herbs to work with during this sacred time.
- MUGWORT Can connect us to our intuition and to lift the veil ever so slightly.
- HAWTHORN: is known as a sacred heart medicine. It’s a Faery tree and was used by the Druids in ritual and medicinally. Look for this enchanting tree in groves with Oak and Rowan as a telltale sign that the Fae Folk are nearby. Gather its branches, leaves, and berries (while leaving an offering for the Fae) to use in your Summer Solstice ritual.
- OAK: is traditionally a tree of summertime. Like Hawthorn, it is a Faery tree, and its lore stretches back for centuries. In some stories, it is believed that the Oak King and the Holly King trade power back and forth to create the seasons and the Oak King rules the warm months. Oak is a symbol of strength. Call on the spirit of Oak in your rituals, gather acorns, or read more about its lore to work with sacred Oak magic.
- CALENDULA: is an herb that truly understands the sun. Work with Calendula to call brightness back into your life. Calendula teaches us that joy is abundant and is possible with every breath we take. Create a Calendula flower essence, ritual bath, or salve to work with Calendula’s magic. Like Calendula, how do we connect to our own brightness?
- ROSE: is associated with the Goddess of Love, Aphrodite. In full bloom during the warmer months, Rose teaches us to unfurl ourselves. “How can we love more fully?” Rose asks us. Rose can be used in ritual baths, anointing oil, or in Rosewater. If Aphrodite hears our prayers, she may bless us with a lover, charm, or glittering energy during the sacred time of Summer Solstice.
My Darkling’s may the long time sun shine upon you, all love surround you and the pure light within you guide your way!
