I’m going to be totally honest, when I thought about writing a short article, I cringed. “I’m not much of a writer. How am I going to write a blog?” My students, where I teach laughed at me saying, “Seriously! Hydration is one of your favorite topics!”And come to think of it, it’s true!
No matter who you are or where you are: in my classroom, having lunch or just chatting. I get asked questions about skin all the time. I’ve been a Licensed Esthetician for 16 years and I’m always answering questions. For instance,“why is my skin breaking out or why is my skin so dry?” Why… Why… Why… Normally the first thing I do is look at what you’re drinking or when I see an energy drink I raise my eyebrows and ask, “is that water in that can?”. Believe it or not, what you drink effects your skin more than you know.
#1: Most of the dust in your house is actually dead skin cells.
#2: Your body is 70-80% water so without it, your body cannot function correctly.
#3: Your skin accounts for 15% of your body weight
#4: Skin is the largest organ in your body. It is a living and breathing organism.
Your skin is made up of cells and when your cells are dehydrated, your skin gets dry and flaky. Your skin also regulates your body temperature and keeps your joints lubricated. All your internal organs rely on water to complete this job. And you wonder why they call it the “elixir of life!”
Let’s get back to why your skin is acting a certain way. If you have acne, drinking more water can actually help to get rid of scars & reduces the appearance of acne. It detoxifies the body from the inside out, which helps to speed up the healing process. Water reduces the amount of oils found in the skin and it improves your skin’s elasticity, helping to prevent wrinkles. By drinking more water, you flush out the acidic waste found in the body which keeps your skin looking healthier & younger!
The benefits of water go on and on: Improves energy, helps with weight loss and even prevents headaches. Most problems can be solved just me increasing your water consumption. Just ask anybody that knows me, my usual response is, “what have you been drinking?”
So… “what are YOU drinking?”
